Horsemanship Philosophy
Natural horsemanship is our training practice at Shankara Acres, and we enjoy sharing these techniques with our students. Horses look to us to be calm and confident leaders, and once this is established their willingness and work ethic opens immensely. Forming a connection through groundwork establishes an understanding with the horse that we are capable herd leaders, no matter our age or riding ability – then this understanding translates when we ride.
Horses as Healers
Horses are wonderous animals who connect deeply with humans. They have an incredible ability to perceive energy and intention and have been used for years in a variety of therapy practices. Some of our horses have worked with high-needs children who present with a variety of intellectual and behavioural challenges. Their ability to alleviate tension and bring an overall sense of well-being is beautiful to witness.
